Katie Ann Mcguigan
Katie Ann McGuigan is a womenswear brand from London. The label offers high-end ready-to-wear working on the frontier of print design along side modern and graphic silhouettes.
Originally born in Ireland, Katie Ann Mcguigan moved to London to begin her fashion training, graduating from the University of Westminster BA Fashion Design Womenswear course in spring 2016. McGuigan has gained experience by working for McQ in London and Marc Jacobs in New York City, designing prints for both menswear and womenswear collections as well working on embroidery and embellishment placements for AW15.
Her collection debut featuring her signature print heavy aesthetic was awarded the Fashion Scout Merit Award, showing during London Fashion Week. McGuigan is currently working on her next collection and solo show, where she will show another collection bound in her identity of strong print design with a focus on pattern cutting.
For SS18 Katie Ann McGuigan presents a striking collection which demonstrates her signature bold print design executed with a strong silhouette, and elaborate pattern cutting. As a designer, a pervasive source of inspiration for Katie is photographers and their work, particularly those who capture youth. For SS18 Katie began her research looking at photographer Perry Ogden and book ‘Pony Kids’, as well as Alen Macweeney and the book Irish Travellers, and Colin O’Brien and his book ‘Travellers’ Children in London Fields. Other artists that Katy drew inspiration from include Frank Stella, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin and Julida Dault. The palette is made up of secondary colours; orange, baby blue, lemon yellow, army green, and burgundy. The shapes throughout the collection add volume and contrast, peplums, ruffles, laser cutting, leather and organza.
