ALEXANDRE ARSENAULT is a graduate from Central St Martins Menswear MA who founded his eponymous label in 2016. His signature style has evolved from his passion for music, reflection on society and teenage years working in tattoo parlours and skate shops.
AW16 marks the launch of his label, and dissects the hedonism and zeitgeist of youth culture through the lens of modern nightlife and its destructive nature. Alexandre examines the glamorisation of this decadent lifestyle, through excess, violence, sex and sweat. Here lies his muse left there under blurred lights, dazed as a vestige of the night past.
Throughout the collection the idea of removal is pervasive – a sense of loss is conveyed through bleaching, dévoré and by raw unfinished details. Alexandre plays with length in his tailoring, to give a certain sense of abandon. The trousers pouring on the floor accentuate this idea, giving a certain stagger to the walk. Silky fabrics give a feeling of sensuality and sensibility, and are mounted on leather or left raw. Favourite band t-shirts are revisited and reimagined, evoking a genuine sense of nostalgia and authenticity. The result is sexual and defiled attempt at being glamorous.
